Works happening in the area
June 19, 2025
As part of the Brent Cross Cricklewood programme, the biggest regeneration scheme Barnet Council has ever undertaken, we’re building an exciting new neighbourhood called Brent Cross Town, which you might’ve already visited or seen taking shape.
We’ve already delivered London’s newest Midland Main Line station, Brent Cross West in 2023 and the scheme will go on to deliver this vibrant neighbourhood which will provide 6,700 new homes, create 25,000 jobs, and provide new retail, leisure and community facilities alongside new parks and open spaces.
To build Brent Cross Town and make improvements to the existing area a whole host of ‘infrastructure’ works have been designed to increase capacity on our roads, while making it much easier and safer for pedestrians to get around the area. In some cases, we also need to take down buildings and structures that are no longer in use.
That’s why you might’ve already noticed, or will do in the next few weeks, a series of works taking place in and around Brent Cross and Cricklewood. The works are always designed to have as little impact as possible and are carefully coordinated across our teams with a phased approach to minimise lane closures at any one time.
Here’s a snapshot of what works are taking place in the coming months and where:
Tilling Road and Claremont Road Junction
If you live on Claremont Road or have children at Whitefield School, Mapledown School or Abracadabra Preschool Nursery, or for those who use the Claremont Road and Tilling Road junction, look out for the works starting there (close to the mini roundabout).
From Monday 7 July 2025, highway works will start to upgrade the junction. The works are expected to last for approximately six months and have been split in two phases to keep traffic flowing and to minimise disruption as much as possible. Works include widening the junction, improving the footways and street lighting.

Hendon Waste Transfer Station
If you live on Brent Terrace or nearby, from Tuesday 1 July 2025, contractors will start to prepare for the demolition works of the decommissioned Hendon Waste Transfer station. These works are part of the wider Brent Cross Town redevelopment and will be progressed according to the planning permission granted for the Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration programme.
The main demolition works are scheduled to begin towards the end of July and completed by the middle of October. We will be monitoring the noise and dust levels throughout the duration of the works to ensure that they are kept to a minimum as much as possible, however due to the nature of the works, there may be an occasional loud noise during the demolition of the structure, which will not be continuous.

Geron Way and A5 Edgware Road
Over at the western side of the Brent Cross Cricklewood area, improvement works have been carried out since Monday 19 May at the junction of A5 Edgware Road and Geron Way. These works are essential to allow the junction to operate more safely for all road users and we expect the works to take up to five months to complete.
The works have also been split into two phases to keep traffic flowing and to minimise disruption as much as possible. These works include widening the junction and improving footways and street lighting to address safety concerns raised to us by residents.

Our TransformingBX website has been designed to keep you updated on construction works, including our interactive map and details of resident drop-in sessions which take place on the third Thursday of every month at the Brent Cross Town Visitor Pavillion. You can speak to us about any questions or concerns you may have about these works, or about the wider development. You can also contact us via email at TransformingBX@Barnet.gov.uk
This is just a part of how we’re transforming the area, and we aim to minimise disruption by notifying affected residents and businesses two weeks in advance. You can also subscribe to our monthly e-newsletter which includes regular construction updates.
