Improvement Works in the local area: update
January 30, 2026
Our teams have been busy working across different parts of the local area to deliver highways improvement works as part of the Brent Cross Cricklewood programme.
In June 2025, we shared an update on multiple ‘infrastructure’ works happening in the area to build Brent Cross Town and deliver much needed improvements to local roads and footpaths.
Tilling Road and Claremont Road Junction
Highway improvement works began in July 2025 to upgrade the Tilling Road and Claremont Road junction, which is now officially complete. The works (pictures above) included widening the junction, installing traffic lights and improving the footway pavements along Tilling Road, which are now two and half metres wide compared to there being no footpath before. The new footway now links Claremont Road to the Brent Cross Retail Park (via Tilling Road) for the first time ever by foot. You will also notice new crossing islands added to help pedestrians cross much more safely.
On Claremont Road, the Mapledown School bus stop (V) has been moved closer to the school, grounds were resurfaced to signify waiting restrictions, cycling lanes have been added, and street lighting has been fixed. Claremont Road bus stop (U) has moved slightly to join the main road, making it accessible for buses to safely pick up passengers. Mini roundabouts have also been resurfaced as part of the works.
Geron Way and A5 Edgware Road
Over at the western side of the Brent Cross Cricklewood area, improvement works were carried out between May and December last year at the junction of A5 Edgware Road and Geron Way. These works have been designed to allow the junction to operate more safely for all road users and included widening the junction, improving footways, street lighting and adding a toucan crossing. These works formed part of the wider Brent Cross Cricklewood programme and address safety concerns raised to us by residents.
For more details on how the improved areas now look like, you can watch our highways videos of Geron Way/A5 Edgware Road and Tilling Road.
Hendon Waste Transfer Station
As part of the works to build Brent Cross West station which opened in December 2023, we needed to relocate the Hendon Waste Transfer Station. Works included reconfiguring the railway tracks and building new sidings.
Between October and December 2025, demolition works of the decommissioned Hendon Waste Transfer station took place. These works are part of the wider Brent Cross Town redevelopment and were progressed according to the planning permission granted for the Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration programme. Site security has now been set up whilst options are being explored for how the space will be used in the future. Once determined, we will share updated information here on how the space will be used.
Geron Way Waste Transfer Station
Works are underway to build a modern waste transfer facility on Geron Way / A5 Edgware Road which will provide a new facility for managing waste and recycling across Barnet and six other North London boroughs. McLaughlin & Harvey, working on behalf of Barnet Council, are now on site to deliver the construction programme for the waste transfer station which is due to open by the end of 2027. Read work schedule and updates here.
We aim to minimise disruption by notifying affected residents and businesses two weeks in advance. If you were/are affected by any of the works, we thank you for your patience and hope that your highways experience will have improved.
