Installation of a temporary bridge at Brent Cross West railway station

Work at the new railway station reached another milestone over the weekend, as a temporary bridge was installed.

The bridge means that workers and construction materials can safely access the slow line concourse construction areas, whilst trains continue to run on the line.

Work was completed on schedule early on Sunday morning, with seven pieces of steelwork lifted into place. The bridge arrived on-site partly pre-assembled, and was installed by the VolkerFitzpatrick engineering and construction team, overseen by Mace who are project managing the station construction on behalf of Barnet Council.

Last week also saw the completion of the first stage of construction works at the station.

Over the course of seven weeks 135 piles were installed at the station site, each one pumping concrete 15 metres below ground.

Specially installed undertrack crossings were used, allowing trains to keep running while the work took place.

The next set of piles will be installed early in the new year, and the station is due be completed in 2022.

Once finished, Brent Cross West will be the first major new mainline station in London in over a decade. It will take 12 minutes to reach Kings Cross St Pancras, Central London’s best-connected transport hub with direct rail access to Europe via Eurostar.

The new £40 million state-of-the-art Brent Cross West station is a key element of the ambitious Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration programme. Once completed the station will connect Brent Cross to central London, with up to eight trains every hour.

Work to clear the site began in June 2019, with the main works to build the station due be completed in 2022.
