Schoolchildren heard how they could one day build the towns of tomorrow, when one of the UK’s leading construction companies visited Claremont Primary School.

David Wake, Apprenticeship Manager for Galldris who are building Brent Cross Town, spoke to 90 pupils in Years 5 and 6 earlier this month.

They were told about how, despite being no older than 11 years old, the subjects they study today are linked to careers in the construction industry.

Claremont Primary School is one of the schools which will benefit from the Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration programme, as it is set to be expanded and get new facilities as agreed by Barnet Council’s Strategic Planning Committee last month.

Eventually the school will have capacity for up to 630 pupils, plus 40 nursery places or up to 80 part-time places, and a 24-place Additional Resource Provision (‘ARP’) for children with autistic spectrum disorder.

New facilities will include a Multi-use Games Area, a new theatre space/hall and meeting rooms, a wildlife area and forest school, and a free-flow play area which acts as an extension to the classrooms for nursery and reception-aged children.

Head of School Sally Neaves said: “The children were really engaged and were talking about it at breaktime which is great news.”
