New jobs for young people at Brent Cross West
July 26, 2021
Three new jobs have been created for young people who want to help build London’s newest train station.
All three roles are through the Kickstart Scheme which helps employers create hundreds of thousands of high-quality work placements for young people.
The positions are for people aged 18-24 and would be on an initial six-month contract with our partners VolkerFitzpatrick. There will be bespoke training and a personalised career action plan, with applicants earning the national minimum wage and working 24 or 25 hours per week.
Junior Civil Engineer
The first opening is for a Junior Civil Engineer. This is one of the main routes for people looking for a career in civil engineering and offers the chance to gain valuable experience in construction. Future careers could be in building structures and infrastructure, such as roads, railways, airports, bridges, harbours, dams, irrigation projects, power plants, and water and sewerage systems.
Candidates should have good communication, IT and organisational skills, excellent numeracy and literacy, experience of team working, and the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines.
Community Liaison Advisor
The second position is for a Community Liaison Advisor. It will involve working closely with the Workplace Manager in setting up and running community initiatives, both on the new station and in the community. This will mean working with Barnet Council, schools and other education providers, and charities. It will also involve organising pre-employment sessions to help job applicants access job and apprenticeship opportunities.
Applicants should have good communication and IT skills, be organised and good at team working, and happy to travel to different event locations in Barnet.
Project Administrator
The third role is for a Project (Site) Administrator, working with senior staff at Brent Cross West station. Daily tasks will include data entry, taking notes and minutes, and sorting, storing, and retrieving electronic and hard copy documents.
This role is aimed at young people with good communication and organisational skills, excellent timekeeping, experience of team working, and experience of using software packages including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
