Co-living at Brent Cross Town
August 6, 2024
Brent Cross Town has announced an exciting new partnership that will deliver the neighbourhood’s first co-living space. The 300 apartments designed for co-living will add to the growing mix of housing options available as part of the transformation of the area.
Co-living is a housing option which offers affordable homes shared by a few adults who each have their own private bedroom and bathroom units and share an open space for eating and leisure amenities.
The co-living space, (currently referred to as Plot 23) will be made possible by a partnership between Brent Cross Town and leading co-living developers Halcyon Development Partners. The development will be funded by UK-based investors, DTZ Investors, and will be operated by its popular co-living brand, Folk Co-living .
The building will be located close to the new high street, Merchant Street, and the main public space Neighbourhood Square which sits in the heart of the town. Residents of the co-living space will be just a three minutes’ walk from Brent Cross West station which connects with St Pancras International in as little as 12 minutes.
Councillor Ross Houston, Barnet Council Cabinet Member for Homes and Regeneration, said: “Plans for our first co-living building at Brent Cross Town show our continued commitment to providing a range of housing options at our emerging neighbourhood, whilst shared-living also helps foster a sense of community amongst the people that live there.”
Brent Cross Town will work closely with Halcyon and DTZ Investors to design the space and will engage with the local community on their views to help shape the new communal spaces that will be offered.
There are a total of 6,700 new homes planned at Brent Cross Town and the mix of housing types being developed have been carefully planned to support different needs of residents across the borough, at different stages of their lives. This will also help to create a vibrant mixed-use community, with residents of all ages and backgrounds enjoying the shopping, leisure and community facilities planned.
Oli Rifkind, Executive Director at Related Argent, added: “Brent Cross Town is truly a place for everyone, with co-living the latest brilliant addition, joining rental, for-sale, affordable, student and later living homes, set amid parks, playing fields, public squares, a new high street, schools and a business and innovation district to form a vibrant town and flourishing multi-generational community. With seven buildings under construction and the first residents moving in later this year, this partnership signals the continued investment confidence in London’s newest town.”
Construction is already nearing completion on the town’s first social housing building (Plot 12), which will provide 120 new replacement homes for residents living in the nearby Whitefield Estate and will be the first building to be completed and occupied. This will be followed closely by the first private sale properties (Plots 202 and 203), and the later living homes being developed by Audley Group. These will be joined by 662 student apartments (Plot 25) and by 249 homes that are being built especially for renters (Plot 13). In total, over 930 homes, including affordable, market sale, and rental homes are already being constructed on-site, along with 662 student rooms in partnership with Fusion Students.
