Transport for London (TfL) will begin essential renewal works on the A41 Brent Cross Flyover from Thursday 24 September 2026.

The A41 flyover is used by thousands of drivers every day, and the programme of works will help keep it safe and reliable for years to come, reducing the need for unexpected repairs or closures. Once completed, the improvements will strengthen the structure and allow the current 7.5-tonne weight restriction to be removed.

As well as strengthening the flyover structure, the upgrade works will involve replacing the safety barriers on the flyover and approach roads and installing a new waterproofing system to help protect the structure.

To enable the works to take place while keeping the route open, the flyover will be reduced to one lane in each direction from the evening of Thursday 24 September. There will also be a series of overnight and weekend lane closures and full road closures during different stages of construction. Signed diversion routes will be in place where required.

Drivers should expect longer journey times on the A41 and surrounding roads, including sections of the A406 North Circular Road, A5 Edgware Road and A1.

To help minimise disruption during the festive period, TfL has confirmed that works will be paused between late November and early January, helping maintain access to Brent Cross Shopping Centre and surrounding businesses.

This project is led by TfL after who received £10.8 million in government funding to begin this phase of works and will continue to provide updates, travel advice and information about planned closures as the project progresses.
