Brent Cross West Team Help Grow Farm
November 1, 2022
Volunteers from VolkerFitzpatrick and Mace, two teams working on the new Brent Cross West station have got their hands stuck in again by helping with planting and landscaping of the local farm and charity, GROW.
GROW is a local Barnet farm and charity that works with schools and communities, particularly Totteridge Academy, in delivering bespoke programmes in outdoor learning. The farm and charity are enthusiastic about educating young people about healthy food and sustainable farming methods.
GROW also educate young locals with skills, knowledge, and confidence to make positive choices and changes in their lives and in the world around them.
Volunteering is not new to the Brent Cross West team as they previously visited GROW farm last summer to help them make better use of the green space and dig up a pond.
After successful fundraising efforts earlier in the year by VolkerFitzpatrick, the team purchased a range of materials and plants to help support the charity. Over two days, the team contributed an additional 70 hours to supporting the farm planting and landscaping.
Sarah Jones, Farm Manager, added “we had a wonderful two days preparing and planting our pollinator garden with Volkerfitzpatrick and Mace staff this Autumn. With the companies’ support, we were able to create a new area on the farm, to help support bees and wild pollinators, and grow more cut flowers and herbs. The space will also be used for teaching our local students and trainees about natural ecosystems and the vital role of pollinators play in healthy ecosystems. Thanks so much to the Brent Cross West team for your support and hard work in the rain!”
Injesh Khadka, social value adviser at VolkerFitzpatrick, said: “The team did an amazing job fundraising earlier in the year and it’s great to return and put those funds into action. We’re proud to support this practical and inspiring resource for young people in the area.”
