Celebrating Mapledown School’s Community Garden
November 20, 2024
Students from Mapledown School have been transforming a section of Brent Cross Town’s Exploratory Park over the last few months to create their own blossoming garden.
Since the summer, Brent Cross Town and its estate team have teamed up with Mapledown (SEN) School to provide an opportunity for local students to learn more about gardening and agriculture. By arranging monthly sessions, students have been able to look after their own mini garden at the Exploratory Park, which has now become greener than ever.
Headteacher of Mapledown School, Sandra Chaaya said: “Our students are delighted to have been offered this work experience opportunity where they are supported and guided by Willerby Landscape to create, grow and care for a community garden. The staff at Related Argent and Willerby have been fantastic and our students are learning so much about the world of work and horticulture. This opportunity also further develops their communication and social skills, their confidence and ability to develop key work-related skills within a community setting, preparing them for life beyond school. We are so grateful to everyone for making this happen.”
Last week, a plaque was installed by Related Argent at the Exploratory Park to celebrate the hard work of the Mapledown School children this year to create the amazing space. Whether you’re walking through the Exploratory Park or want to take a look at the new community garden, we hope you can enjoy the new space.
Brent Cross Town is the new park town at the heart of the Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration programme, which is being delivered in partnership between Related Argent and Barnet Council.
