It’s been three months since the first phase of improvements works on Clitterhouse Playing Fields began, which will bring new enhanced spaces for sport, play and relaxation.

The works have been taking place at the northern end of the playing fields, where contractors Galldris, have started forming the paths and terraces for the bouldering/parkour, multi-use games area, children’s playground and basketball court. Drainage improvement works have also taken place, as well as the delivery of four large boulders which will be available for climbers of different ages and abilities.

Farm Playground

As part of the next stage of improvements, from early September, work will move to the southern area of fields, where a brand-new Farm Playground will be created near the Clitterhouse Farm entrance. Protective fencing will be installed around the area whilst works take place.

The works have been carefully coordinated to minimise disruption and keep as much of the fields accessible as possible during construction. The new play area is expected to open by the end of the year, and once open, will provide more opportunities for children and families to enjoy the space.

Site work and footpath diversions

Alongside the playground works, new drainage infrastructure will be installed in September to support the sustainable drainage system which will improve water management across the fields. Most footpaths will remain open during these works, but a short-term footpath diversion will be in place during October to allow the rebuilding of the outfall to Clitterhouse Stream and surrounding pathways.

You will also see progress on new walking routes, including the construction of a footpath across the southern area of the playing fields. These routes will help improve access throughout the park and connect residents more easily to different areas of the fields.

Later in the year, a section of the east-west path will be diverted, with the Purbeck Drive entrance being temporarily closed to allow the completion of utility connections. Clear signage will be provided to guide visitors through alternative routes.

Purbeck Drive Entrance

Improvement works on Purbeck Drive were originally scheduled to begin on Thursday 24 September, with the expectation that they will take up to six weeks to complete. The start date however is currently under review whilst teams continue their preparation and survey work. Once a new date is confirmed, we will let all residents know in advance.

In the meantime, we also held a ‘Meet the Artist’ event where residents had the opportunity to see and discuss the exciting plans for the emerging artwork. The designs have been developed in collaboration with residents, helping to ensure the artwork reflects their ideas and aspirations for the area.

Works are being delivered in phases to help keep disruption to a minimum while improvements are carried out. You can view the latest works programme here for an updated timetable of upcoming activities and expected completion dates.
