This week marks the official launch of Brent Cross Town Connect’s office space and website, making it easier for residents to access jobs, training and career opportunities.

 

Brent Cross Town Connect, is a new recruitment and employment service located at the heart of Brent Cross Town and is dedicated to residents of Barnet, Brent and Camden. The office is located at 7 Ribbon Lane, NW2 8AR, and is open from Monday to Friday between 10am and 3pm.

The service will provide direct access to vacancies, training and career support, connecting local people to opportunities across Brent Cross Town and the wider Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration programme. By bringing together employers, recruiters, training providers, including BOOST and welfare-to-work organisations, the service will offer tailored job matching, skills development and volunteering opportunities.

Barnet resident, Abdullah Ally (pictured above) was studying electrical installation and maintenance at college when he was referred to the service by his tutor. With support through the application process, he secured a Level 3 trainee electrician apprenticeship at Brent Cross Town and is now gaining practical experience while working towards becoming a fully qualified electrician.

Abdullah Ally said: “This apprenticeship means I can work towards completing my NVQ portfolio and becoming a fully qualified electrician. Every day I am learning something new and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity and the people around me.”

Whilst Brent Cross Town Connect first opened its doors to the community on 3 August and has been supporting walks-in and returning visitors ever since; the service was also formally launched this week with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by the Leader of the Council, Councillor Barry Rawlings, and joined by local partners, employers and some jobseekers who are now employed at Brent Cross Town.

Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Strategic Partnerships, Economy, and Effective Council Party, Councillor Barry Rawlings, said: “As Brent Cross Town continues to grow, the launch of Brent Cross Town Connect demonstrates our commitment to ensuring local people benefit from the opportunities being created in the area. It will help residents access employment, skills, training and support, while strengthening links between communities, businesses and local partners.”

As well as the hub, residents can browse vacancies and opportunities online through the Brent Cross Town Connect website.

So far, 688 residents from Barnet, Brent and Camden have secured work at the development, including 356 Barnet residents. Brent Cross Town has also supported 84 apprenticeships, including 20 taken up by Barnet residents, and engaged more than 1,000 students and jobseekers through careers and industry insight events.

By connecting residents directly with employers and training providers, Brent Cross Town Connect will help local people access the jobs, skills and opportunities being created through the Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration programme.
