New affordable homes announced at Brent Cross Town
November 7, 2024
Today (7 November), we are pleased to announce an exciting new partnership between Related Argent, the GLA and Sovereign Network Group to deliver 50 homes for social rent at new neighbourhood, Brent Cross Town.
These homes will add to the growing mix of housing options available as part of the transformation of the area, including much needed affordable housing.
The new homes will be made possible through a partnership with housing association Sovereign Network Group (SNG) who will fund and manage the new homes.
Additional funding is also being provided by the Greater London Authority’s (GLA) Affordable Housing Programme 2021- 26. Barnet Council helped to secure the grant funding and will be responsible for allocating these affordable homes to people living in the borough.
The 50 one, two and three-bedroom homes will sit alongside 226 Build-to-Rent (BtR) homes and will be designed by London-based dRMM Architects, who are delivering four new buildings in the neighbourhood.
Councillor Ross Houston, Barnet Council Cabinet Member for Homes and Regeneration, said: “We are committed to doing everything we can to deliver high-quality affordable housing options for people living in the borough. The first housing to be completed anywhere across the scheme provides homes for Council tenants and we now welcome the delivery of a further 50 much needed new homes for social rent. We look forward to them getting underway next year with more to come in the future.”
Brent Cross Town, which is being delivered in partnership between Barnet Council and Related Argent, is set to deliver 6,700 much-needed homes in the borough, including affordable options, market-sale, build-to-rent, co-living, student and later-living.
These 50 new homes for social rent demonstrate our ongoing commitment to providing genuinely affordable homes alongside new public parks and community infrastructure like Brent Cross West at the very beginning on the scheme.
They will join 120 brand-new affordable homes which includes social housing, due to be completed at Brent Cross Town this year, and 47 new affordable homes, including social rent on Brent Terrace as part of our wider programme. They are the first homes to be completed anywhere across the ambitious Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration scheme and provide replacement homes for the Whitefield Estate residents.
Tom Copley, the Deputy Mayor of London for Housing and Residential Development, added: “I’m delighted that 50 more new social homes are set to be delivered at Brent Cross Town, supported by grant funding from City Hall. This partnership between City Hall, Related Argent, Barnet Council and Sovereign Network Group embodies the Mayor’s mission to deliver more high-quality, genuinely affordable homes across the capital, helping to make London a better, fairer place for everyone.”
Work will get underway on the new homes for social rent early next year with Midgard appointed as the main construction contractor. The new homes will be managed by SNG and occupied by residents of Barnet, with first move-ins expected by mid-2027.
