New Footpath Opens
August 1, 2023
Our teams have made significant improvements in the local area over the past few weeks.
They have resurfaced Brent Terrace North, installing new and more accessible pavements, a zebra crossing, bus stops, taxi bays and more in anticipation of the new Brent Cross West station.
The new footpath route opened on Friday 14 July which you can now access and walk through between 5:30am to 8pm via Claremont Park. With new pavements, fresh paint and planting, your walking journey will take you past the new station through to Tilling Road. See footpath route map here.
Outside of these hours, a diverted route remains in place via Clitterhouse Crescent between 8pm to 5:30am. This route will be open 24/7 when Brent Cross West station opens in Autumn 2023.
Outside the eastern entrance of Brent Cross West station, there are fresh road markings, crossings, trees and planting installed which is shaping the final look of the station. Bus stops and taxi bays have also been marked and will form part of the new bus interchange, connecting people to and from the station.
Over at the western entrance, there are fitted bike storage spaces and an Italian Alder tree, bringing the space together nicely. Road works on the western entrance are also close to completion.
Once Brent Cross West opens, the new overbridge (see middle image above) will provide 24-hour access to residents living on both the east and west side of the tracks, from Staples Corner retail park to Brent Cross Town. The station will also have step-free access from street level to the platforms from both the eastern and western entrances.
Other road improvements in the area
There are now new roads open for everyone to use that will connect locals and visitors to and from the area. More recently, the zebra crossing outside Mapledown School was refreshed as part of increasing safety in the area. Here are some ‘before and after’ photos showing how the roads have transformed.
The Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration programme is the biggest redevelopment and growth programme Barnet Council has ever undertaken. More information about the wider programme can be found here.
