Station’s Eastern Entrance Starts to Take Shape
March 23, 2022
Spring is finally here, a welcome change for the teams that have been working day and night to build Brent Cross West station over the cold winter months.
The station’s eastern entrance is really starting to take shape. Designed by architects Studio Egret West, the timber frames and biodiversity are a key feature for this entrance, which will provide the front door into the new Brent Cross Town development. The glulam timber beams and columns are now in place and begin to show how the environmental ambitions will be realised. The concrete elements of the building’s shell have been completed, as well as the lift shafts, and the four escalators which are now installed.
Brent Cross Town, which is being delivered in partnership between Argent Related and Barnet Council, will include 6,700 new homes for sale and for rent, alongside restaurants, cafes and shops, sports and leisure facilities, and will be a major new office destination. With 3 million sq ft of office space, Brent Cross Town will create a new business ecosystem for 25,000 employees. The new neighbourhood has pledged to be a net zero carbon town by 2030 at the latest.
On the western entrance, which will connect Brent Cross West to Edgware Road, the lift shaft is now being built, drainage installation being completed and concrete block work to build the ways of this entrance. A public consultation was held in January to showcase the plans for the western entrance public realm.
The huge task of completing the station’s steelwork for the overbridges and the main concourse is complete. Works to clad the overbridges and station roof are also underway and the glass walling on the northern concourse installed. In just a few months the steel roofbeams will be in place on the southern concourse, and the canopies installed on the upper level and above the platforms. The installation of the main concrete stairs now also provide access from the concourse down to the platforms.
The station programme is being managed by Mace on behalf of Barnet Council, and built by VolkerFitzpatrick. Our latest construction programme of works to build Brent Cross West, as well as Brent Cross Town, and the new homes on Brent Terrace was distributed. Read more about the future works here
