Tour shows construction careers across BXC
June 25, 2021
Young people from across Barnet learnt about careers in construction thanks to a special event held at Brent Cross West station and Brent Cross Town last week.
The group were given a tour of the site on 17 June, while our partners VolkerFitzpatrick spoke about the process of building London’s newest mainline station.
They then heard from Galldris, with information about the Go Construct scheme which helps people to find careers in construction, while apprentices from Galldris addressed the audience.
Argent Related wrapped up the session with a presentation on the ambitious plans for Brent Cross Town, the new park town being built as part of the Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration programme, as well as the various jobs needed to make it a reality.
Site managers, project directors and site staff all spoke with the group about the roles, their experience, and the reality of creating such an ambitious project. Also on hand were staff from the Department for Work and Pensions, and BOOST which provides local people with employment and benefit advice.
This was followed five days later by students from Whitefield School heading to Brent Cross Town, where Argent Related showed them the workshop and new Exploratory Park. They learned about the benefits and opportunities that the new park town will bring to them and to their communities.
Throughout the Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration programme more than 5,000 people will be involved in a wide variety of construction roles, building the station, new homes, and other key infrastructure needed to create a new community. Where possible we hope at least 20% of the people working across the site are local residents of Barnet or the neighbouring boroughs of Brent and Camden.
