Upcoming works: A41/A406

February 13, 2026

From Monday 16 February, essential works will be carried out to repair parts of a column bridge structure of the A41/A406 interchange.

Since the structures of the A41/A406 interchange were built in the late 1960s and early 1970s, parts of a structure now need major refurbishment. These works will prevent further deterioration, reduce the risk of long-term closures and the repairs will strengthen the road and footpaths, making them safe for years to come.

Transport for London has appointed engineer and construction experts, Costain, to make those necessary repairs. Works include concrete demolition, repairs, and removing the temporary props supporting the column once the permanent replacement is completed.

To complete the works safely, sections of Cooper Road (shown in red) between the A41 slip road and the roundabout at the junction with Shirehall Lane will be closed. Clearly signed road closures and traffic management will be in place to ensure our team can carry out the work. The slip road will not be fully closed during the works and vehicles will still be able to use it. The footpath beneath the slip road however will be closed throughout the work and a clearly signed pedestrian diversion (shown in blue) will be in place to guide people around the work area safely.

The repair works are expected to complete by Monday 30 March and will be undertaken between Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm. Disruption and noise will be minimised as much as possible and traffic management will be in place 24/7 to support traffic flow.
