Updates on Whitefield Avenue and Claremont Way
May 8, 2026
Over the coming months, work will be starting on the next phase of development at Brent Cross Town located between the former Whitefield Estate and the Claremont Way area. As part of this, there will be a small number of temporary and permanent changes to local streets, open spaces and facilities, helping to deliver improved spaces and better amenities for the community.
Here are the changes taking place over the next few months:
Exploratory Park
The Exploratory Park, which opened in 2020 as a temporary open space, will permanently close on Monday 1 June to make way for the development of future residential buildings. While this space has been well-used by families and our local community, it was always intended as a temporary amenity.
Many of the park’s play features and equipment will be relocated nearby so they can continue to be enjoyed by local children and families. Most of the play equipment will be relocated to form a new children’s playground opening in October, on Clitterhouse Playing Fields near the Clitterhouse Farm buildings. You can read more about the new exciting play and sport features being delivered in this space, here. Other parts of the play equipment will also be relocated to the former Whitefield Estate area, where a new play area will open in late July. This space will include a ball court, table tennis tables and floor games, ensuring children and families continue to have access to outdoor play throughout the summer.
Whitefield Avenue
Whitefield Avenue will close on Monday 8 June to allow for road improvements to be carried out, such as pothole repairs, and the construction of a new temporary car park. The new car park will open just off Whitefield Avenue and serve nearby residents and visitors during future phases of development. A fee will be charged via Pay by Phone, which is consistent with charges in the area.
The closure of Whitefield Avenue is necessary to ensure the works can be carried out safely and clear signage will be in place. We recognise that Whitefield Avenue has been used for parking by nearby residents, school staff and visitors, and alternative parking space options will be available at Claremont Way car park (until 24 June), the Tilling Road car park and along Marble Drive, Claremont Road, and at the Brent Cross Hendon Way Tesco Superstore.
You can also book local parking spaces on residential roads, driveways and car parks using parking apps and websites such as yourparkingspace.co.uk and justpark.com
Claremont Way car park and parade of shops
Claremont Way car park and the parade of shops will close on Wednesday 24 June, ahead of demolition to enable the next phase of redevelopment to begin. When the car park closes, visitors will be able to use the new car park at Whitefield Avenue.
For the majority of the shops, such as much-loved Karma Bakery and AG Food and Wine, they will still be local to you as they are moving across to Merchant Street, NW2 8BB, which is just a three-minute walk from the previous location. These shops are expected to open by the end of summer.
This work will unlock important future uses for the area, including new homes, improved streets and better public spaces. We appreciate that the closure of familiar local shops is a significant change, and we would like to thank the retailers and customers for their support over the years.
Our teams are working hard to minimise disruption, provide clear on‑street signage and maintain safe pedestrian routes whilst the works take place.
