Whitefield Estate Demolition update
October 23, 2025
Today (Friday 24 October) marks the start of the main demolition works on the Whitefield Estate high rises.
This signals the next step in the life of this part of the Brent Cross Cricklewood area. This demolition is part of our long-term vision to transform the area and build a new net zero neighbourhood which will see up to 6,700 new homes, a new high street and community amenities, as well as creating tens of thousands of new jobs.
As we learned in our local legacy evening earlier this month, this area has had a varied and exciting history – from farmland to the site of major innovations in transport at the Cricklewood aerodrome, to the home of the UK’s first American-style shopping mall. The Whitefield Estate itself has been an important part of the neighbourhood since it was constructed in the 1960s. During the legacy session and at previous neighbourhood events, we spoke to local residents who shared with us their favourite stories and memories of living in the area and we’ll be preserving these by hosting them alongside our legacy presentation here.
Former Whitefield Estate residents of Whychcote Point, Clare Point and Norden Point, moved into their replacement homes at Brent Cross Town in March, which made them the first residents of the new neighbourhood. The high-rise building called Conductor House is located a few minutes’ walk from Whitefield Estate and comprises 120 new homes which had been built to provide replacement social housing, one of the first residential buildings to be completed in the development.
In August, we distributed a demolition update letter to residents living in and around the area who may be impacted by the works. The overall works will last up to eight months, with the main demolition taking place between October and November. We expect that the programme of works will be complete by February 2026. You can also keep up to date about the works and read our FAQs on our Whitefield Estate webpage.
