Student accommodation at Brent Cross
August 16, 2024
Earlier this week, Brent Cross Town announced its second student accommodation building in the new neighbourhood. The new development will offer approximately 650 student bedrooms and add to the growing mix of housing options available as part of the transformation of the area.
This development will be made possible through a £275 million partnership between one of the UK’s largest student accommodation developers, Fusion Group, and global investors Cheyne Capital.
As well as student apartments, the proposals for this student development will offer a range of communal activities that contribute to the health and wellbeing of those that live there. This includes multiple study areas, a digital gaming zone where residents can play virtual sports such as football, padel and tennis, as well as a health kitchen that includes a zero-waste shop, private dining, a yoga studio, a herb garden and relaxation pods.
The building will be located only a few minutes from Claremont Park, and close to Brent Cross West station, making it easier for students to travel to and from the town.
This is the second student accommodation building in Brent Cross Town that Fusion and Cheyne have partnered on. The first, (referred to as Plot 25), is a single building made up for three blocks, which will provide up to 600 student bedrooms. Construction of this building is already well-progressed and is expected to complete next year.
Councillor Ross Houston, Barnet Council Cabinet Member for Homes and Regeneration, said: “We are pleased that Fusion and Cheyne Capital have signed up to deliver a second offer for student accommodation, it shows our dedication to offering a first-class higher education experience at Brent Cross Town, while the student community that live and study here will contribute to the vibrancy of our mixed-use neighbourhood.”
Julian Evans, Land and Planning Director at Fusion Group, added: “Brent Cross Town is London’s most exciting new neighbourhood, and expanding our partnerships with Cheyne and Related Argent to bring more than 1,300 student rooms to it is a privilege. As we continue our community engagement to ensure we can best contribute to the vibrancy of this neighbourhood, we’ll bring our decades of experience of developing residential assets in urban regenerations across the country to deliver another best-in-class student scheme as part of the town.”
Currently, there are seven sites under construction at Brent Cross Town, with the first residents moving into the town later this year. Student housing will contribute to the diversity of the residential offer at Brent Cross Town, which will be home to a London campus for Sheffield Hallam University, which will deliver courses to up to 5,000 students.
