Celebrating Barnet Climate Action Month
July 25, 2025
Barnet Council’s sustainability team celebrated a successful month of events and activities, which helped to support the council’s journey to becoming a net zero borough by 2042.
Barnet’s Climate Action Month (BCAM) consists of a programme of community events that took place in June which helped raise awareness of Barnet’s commitment to becoming a net zero borough and celebrate climate action. Over the past two years, Barnet Council has supported hundreds of community groups with their initiatives and events as part of BCAM.
This event was a closing celebration of BCAM 2025 and was joined by students from All Saints’ CofE Primary School and Middlesex University, as well as barnet-based action groups who took part in this years’ programme.
The sustainability team shared the council’s progress as part of its wider BarNET ZERO journey, as well as an overview of the BCAM events that took place this year. The council’s second ever annual sustainability report and updates on the Barnet School Strategy for Sustainability.
From planting their own gardens, to recycling old pens from their classrooms, All Saints’ CofE Primary School students shared what they’re doing at school as part of their curriculum to contribute to sustainability.
Councillor Alan Schneiderman, Barnet Council Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change and Cricklewood Ward Member said: “It has been inspiring to see our community come together throughout Barnet’s Climate Action Month and support our journey to becoming one of London’s most sustainable boroughs. Celebrating this month of impactful events at Brent Cross Town is a reminder of what we can achieve when we work together and every step we take brings us closer to that goal.”

With its pledge to be net zero carbon town by 2030 and establishing a new standard for large-scale urban regeneration, while empowering those that live, work or study to make low-carbon lifestyle choices; Brent Cross Town was proud to host Barnet Council’s BCAM closing ceremony at their award-winning Visitor Pavilion.
Sustainability at Brent Cross Town
Brent Cross Town is a new 180-acre neighbourhood at the heart of the Brent Cross Cricklewood programme – our biggest and most significant area regeneration. As a joint venture between Barnet Council and Related Argent, we are on a journey to make this pioneering, mixed-use development, including 6,700 new homes, 3 million sq ft of office space, and its retail, restaurants and leisure facilities, net zero carbon.
Some of the ways we are doing this is by ensuring all the energy within our control will be 100% renewable (and that’s by having one of Europe’s largest electric district heating and cooling networks). Brent Cross Town is also improving biodiversity in the area by introducing over 500 new trees, with 313 already planted at Claremont Park, alongside 190,000 bulbs, bird nesting boxes, bee posts and insect hotels, and a new pond. Through innovative design and construction methods, Brent Cross Town is also committed to building responsibly and sustainably using approved UK ratings such as BREEAM. Already some buildings at Brent Cross Town have won awards for their sustainable designs, including the Visitor Pavilion and Brent Cross West stations’ impressive eastern entrance.
Across the development, Brent Cross Town is and continues to make it easier for people to take journeys by foot, bicycle or public transport. Already, works are underway to add new pathways, improved walking and cycling routes, and better bus services. New roads are designed to slow traffic and prioritise pedestrians. We’ve even built London’s newest mainline station, Brent Cross West, which opened in December 2023 and makes it easier for people to get around the area as well as in and out of London and beyond.
