Sustainability briefing at Brent Cross Town

August 6, 2024

On Tuesday 23 July, Brent Cross Town hosted Barnet Council’s latest business breakfast briefing. More than 50 local Barnet employers, charities and support partners came together to support local businesses to become more sustainable.

Barnet Council’s business breakfast briefings are part of a quarterly event series which provide an opportunity for local businesses, charities and organisations to network and hear from council leadership on their priorities, such as becoming a Net Zero borough by 2042.

This event’s focus was on helping businesses reduce their carbon footprint, attract new customers, and form new local partnerships. Attendees had the opportunity to meet with organisations that provide free expert advice on how businesses can find local suppliers, cut costs and partner with the council. Some organisations included North London Waste Authority, Barnet Street Scene, Barnet Skills Centre, BOOST, Smarter Society and Better Futures.

Barnet Council Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change and Cricklewood Ward Member, Councillor Alan Schneiderman said: “It was great to see so many local businesses and services come together this morning with the collective aim to operate more sustainably and tackle the climate emergency together. Thank you to our partners for hosting us at Brent Cross Town, our new net zero carbon neighbourhood.”

Environment Manager at Related Argent, Tim Hoyland, who spoke at the business breakfast event added: “Speaking with many Barnet-based businesses at the briefing session, it was great to see a clear appetite to reduce environmental impact and to have the opportunity to share some of the highlights and lessons from our sustainability journey at Brent Cross Town.”

Hosted by our development partners for Brent Cross Town, Related Argent, the award-winning Visitor Pavilion provided the perfect backdrop for a sustainability themed event. In May, the Visitor Pavilion won a RIBA (The Royal Institute of British Architects) award, recognising it as one of the best environmentally friendly buildings in the UK.
